Great Lakes Iroquois cultivated this magnificent bean for centuries before Europeans arrived in the region. It is also identified by Frederick M. Wiseman's Seeds of Renewal Project as an Abenaki native bean.
Robust plants are vigorous climbers, easily topping an 8-foot trellis, and are highly productive. The large, flat dry beans are wonderous to behold, each gloriously patterned in black and white with swirls and speckles in images akin to the night's sky. The dry beans are wonderful pantry staples that cook quickly and are absolutely delicious making them well deserving of a place in your garden.
