Developed and donated to the USDA in 1961 by Poland's Institute of Soil Science Cultivation, Urbanowicki is a 6-rowed fall-planted barley known for its winter hardiness and early maturity. Kernels have a protein content that ranges 10-13% and a beta glucan content of 3.7-4.6%. Beta glucan is a soluble dietary fiber that is used for cholesterol maintenance.
