Lina Sisco's Bird Egg Bean
(Phaseolus vulgaris); aka Lina Cisco's Bird Egg Bean; Heirloom; a Slow Food Ark of Taste variety; Bush bean; Dry bean; Minimum 20 seeds
This bean has connection to two worthy organizations - Seed Savers Exchange and Slow Food USA. In 1975 Lina Sisco cofounded Seed Savers Exchange and included this family heirloom in the collection. Roughly one hundred years earlier, in the 1880's, Lina's grandmother had carried these beans with her on her Wagon Train journey to Missouri. With their history such as it is, and the fact the plump dry horticultural beans are so incredibly flavorful, Slow Food USA boarded the variety on its Ark of Taste, a living catalogue of culturally significant foods. Upright bushes are robust and productive growers.
