Manitoba Black Bean
(Phaseolus vulgaris); Heirloom; Bush bean with short runners; Dry bean; Minimum 30 seeds
Very similar to, but earlier than Black Turtle, these rambunctious plants thrived despite little attention from us. We direct seeded in early June and in September we harvested an abundance of short purple-streaked pods that held up to 8 beautiful seeds apiece. Black Manitoba sends out vigorous runners which overtake their neighbors if not given something else on which to climb. Our stock seed comes from Vermont seed saver Sylvia Davatz who sourced hers from a Mennonite seed saver in Michigan.
