(Phaseolus vulgaris); Bush bean with runners; Dry bean; Minimum 30 seedsNo(rth) Dak(ota) is a variety of pinto bean developed in North Dakota for shorter growing seasons and released to gardeners in the 1980s. The low maintenance bush plants do send out short runners which are easily twined about themselves so the plants are self-supporting without the need for a trellis. Young pods are eaten as snaps but usually they are left to mature on the plant to harvest for dry beans. Fast cooking without pre-soaking and tender, Pintos are key ingredients in soups, spreads and refried beans. An excellent producer for us.
