[Venere is a black rice variety developed in Italy by Dr Wang Xue Ren. The purpose was to breed a cold tolerant, northern adapted version of black rice by crossing Forbidden Black Rice with a cold tolerant Chinese variety. Known in Italian as Riso Venere ("Venus Rice"), this medium grain rice has a naturally black pericarp. Short plants that tiller extensively reach 1.5 to 2 foot tall. An early maturing cultivar, Venus Rice flowers at 66 days from transplant. Harvest of select panicles starts roughly 113 days post transplant. Sherck Seeds is our original source
IMPORTANT NOTE: Keep in mind, rice seed is hulled. Rice is planted in its hull but after harvest, that hull must be removed before eating. De-hulling rice is not easily achieved by hand, requiring mechanical assistance such as the Brill De-huller or an electric de-huller.
