Joe Ippoliti received these beans from his first-generation Italian-American neighbor Mrs. Watts of Scotia, New York in the 60s or 70s. They have featured in the family's gardens and on their table ever since. The beans came to Mrs. Watts from her father who brought them from Italy. Joe's son Tom along with his colleague Rick Meierotto of Minnesota's University of St. Thomas continue to grow these versatile heirloom beans.
Pink flowers on strongly climbing vines mature to long, flattish pods that shell to reveal an average of 5 large, cranberry type beans that are smooth and creamy with a rich, nutty flavor. Produces until first frost.
