Chickpeas / Garbanzos

Members of the botanical group Cicer arietinum are commonly known as chickpeas or garbanzos. Typically considered a mediterranean crop, these varieties thrive in southeast Michigan with little attention from us. The biggest challenge we encounter is in the fall when our small furry neighbors seek to stockpile food for winter and raid our patch for pods. Frequent harvesting of mature pods lessens the loss.
