Sold out for the season - please check back again in the fall.
(Cicer arietinum); an OSSI-pledged variety bred for organic systems; Bush; Minimum 20 seeds
One of Carol Deppe's varieties, Hannan Popbean was developed to produce reliably under organic conditions and is highly resistant to soil-borne and aphid-borne diseases. As its name suggests, Hannan popbean is enjoyed as a popbean in addition to the many traditional uses of garbanzos that include spreads, dips and soups. Chickpeas are typically fickle in northern gardens but their value to our pantry nutritionally, motivated us to trial them. Hannan Popbean's 2-foot tall bushes surprised us with an acceptable harvest of small puffy pods which is encouraging for short-season gardeners.
Please note the plants of this species are commonly referred to as chickpeas and garbanzos interchangeably.
