(Avena sativa); Heritage; Hull-less; an Ontario Connection variety
The Liberty Hull-less cultivar was developed in 1914 in Ontario by Sir Charles Edward Saunders at the Ottawa Central Experimental Farm. Liberty's tall straw resists lodging. Lax panicles hold oats that are 20% protein with a 9% lipid content. Freshly harvested, not all kernels shed their hulls easily, but as they dry it becomes easier.
