Salzmunder Bartweizen is a cultivar released in 1957 by breeder Georg Riebesel-Salzmunde (1892-1965) who began his enormous works on interspecific crosses between wheat and rye in 1924. Plants are winter hardy and productive with large awned spikes gracefully atop strong tall straw. Easily hand-threshed.
