(Cucurbita maxima); Heirloom; aka Will's Banquet; Hand-pollinated; Minimum 15 seeds
Mandan Banquet is interesting in that it's history includes ties to several indigenous varieties. Introduced in 1935 by North Dakota seedman Oscar H. Will as a stablized cross between Buttercup and Gilmore; Gilmore was the result of Will's 1926 cross between the Winnebago and the Arikara squashes. I grow this wonderful baking squash on a cattle panel trellis to conserve space. With vibrant orange flavorful flesh, it is an early maturing variety and stores well when properly cured.
