(Hordeum vulgare); barley; six-row
I dehulled this one by rubbing with my hands, but, enough grains resist that some light mechanical dehulling would be required. My sample was too small to run through my dehulling rig.
This Spring planted barley was my first to be harvested in 2018. The canopy did an excellent job of weed control. In my plot, about a third of the plants were lodging. The only difference I saw was the planting spacing, so, next year, I'll lean more towards 6 inches between plants. A few plants had more than 20 functional tillers and no sign of rust!
