Mizukuchiine Rice seeds

(Oryza sativa); Landrace; Minimum 50 seeds

Mizukuchiine is a glutinous, medium-grain landrace cultivar from Japan with a light brown bran. Plants reach 3 foot and tiller minimally. Flowers appear 53 days from transplant at the end of May and harvest of select panicles began 84 days from transplant, finishing a week later on our southeast Michigan homestead

John Sherck of Sherck Seeds offers this culinary assessment of Mizukuchiine:

"Mizukuchiine was cooked with the bran intact (brown rice) and had a delightfully different flavor and texture than most brown rice varieties. The texture remained firm and a bit chewy. The flavor was nutty and buttery according to my taste. This rice took approx. 45 minutes to cook."

IMPORTANT NOTE: Keep in mind, rice seed is hulled. Rice is planted in its hull but after harvest, that hull must be removed before eating. De-hulling rice is not easily achieved by hand, requiring mechanical assistance such as the Brill De-huller or an electric de-huller.
