(Vigna unguiculata); a Great Lakes Region variety; climbing; multi-purpose: shelly, snap, dry; Minimum 30 seeds
As its name implies, this cowpea was on the community seed table at the 2022 Michiana Regional Seed Swap in Goshen, Indiana. There was no description other than "pole", but given the assumption it came from a local grower I thought it worth trialing. I am glad I did! Vines easily top a 5 foot trellis and become laden with long slender pods that plump out with an average of a dozen seeds. While fresh pods have a sweet beany flavor, I grow these cowpea to stock my pantry with their large chubby dry seeds.
