This blog is organized first the 'variety', and then within each variety, by date.   Amish Mushroom Popcorn A small plot planted on June 11 with dark black soil that tends to dry out and become crumble.  Two weeks later on July 3rd, looking nice. Since this soil drys out so quickly, I'm mulching with newspaper and grass clippings.   I did mulch this patch with newspapers and grass clippings and dried roots that I raked while preparing the earliest grain harvest for a Gaspe Flint Corn plot #2.  Looking good on September 17th.  Some bird damage to the tips...

A few days ago, I flail mowed the residue from some of last year's corn   Today, I gave it a light tilling. I really would have like to have done that 2 weeks ago.  April 27th 2nd tilling, decay of the plant residue is looking good.  Not too many 'weeds with strong roots' left. April 30th Power harrowed in the morning, then raked to prepare the seed bed.  I'm going...

Back Field: I plan to use the relatively clean sandy loam from the garlic/onions for growing some of our new 'test' grains.   North of the Barn: Plan to put another plot of Sangaste Rye, Sardinian Barley (or some other brewing barley) and an awned wheat.  This area is easy pickings for rabbits, so, I'll have to set up a chicken wire fence.   Silo Garden is the first section to be planted: September 21 Rain, or I could have finished the last bit At this point, we've hand planted 6000 feet of row length... relaxing...   September 20...
