This Japanese dry pole bean is reportedly named for its likeness to the shellfish off Hokkaido's shores, its name translating to "shell bean." Not only is it productive but its chubby beans showcase Mother Nature's artistic flair, patterned with blueish-gray and black swirly streaks on an off-white base (can you tell I am a pretty bean afficianado!) Vines easily top a six foot trellis. A keeper!
