Szalkas is a fall-planted triticale cultivar developed by Dr. Arpad Kiss of Hungary's Agricultural Research Institute and donated to the USDA in 1978. It is known for its resistance to stem rust. Szalkas demonstrates good winter hardiness and its long spikes thresh easily of their kernels.
