Emmer (Mixed Colors Fall Planted) Blue Black White

(Triticum turgidum.dicoccon); Hulled; Fall-planted; Minimum 10 grams

Emmer was one of the first crops to be domesticated in the Near East.  It was widely cultivated in the ancient world. On a homestead scale, the hull is difficult to remove.  Highly ornamental, many people grow emmer for decorative use.  This is our multi-generational fall-planted Emmer line selected on our southeast Michigan homestead as a mix of hull colors, though it is important to note that hull color is greatly influenced by soil and weather conditions.

On our homestead, we have yet to master a method for consistently crack emmer's hulls to making flour.

For reference, 100 seeds with hulls weighs around 3.5 grams.
