(Triticum spelta); aka Spelt, Farro; a variety from The Kusa Seed Society Collection; Hulled; Fall-planted
The classic European hulled wheat cultivated since 5,000 BC and traditionally used for breads, Winter Dinkel is coveted for its exceptional flavor. Germination benefits if the grains are kept in their hulls when planted.
The modern use is for animal feed, fed without removing the hulls or for field grazing. It grows so nicely! We really hope to find a way to dehull spelt/dinkel with 'home scale' equipment.
