Club Wheat
These varieties belong to the botanical group Triticum aestivum ssp. compactum.
A subspecies of common bread wheat, club wheat (also known as cluster wheat or hedgehog wheat) is characterized by its short, densely compact spikes. Cultivars are distinctly fall planted or spring planted.
Primarily a flour wheat, five club wheat varieties were grown on nearly 2,000,000 acres in 1959 - mostly in the Pacific Northwest.
