Vermont Read 1898 Wheat

(Triticum aestivum); aka Read, Read's Vermont Winter; Heritage - Centennial; Soft White Winter; Awned; Fall-planted; Minimum 25 seeds

A Vermont heritage wheat originally introduced in 1898 as a cross of Canadian varieties, developed and released by G.A. Read of Charlotte who said of it: "This wheat was originated by me in 1898 by crossing the Bearded Fife with a valuable early club-head beardless velvet-chaff variety found mixed with Bearded Fife and presumably Early Arcadian."

This 49-inch mid-season variety tillers prolifically and threshes easily to yield blond grains that are slightly denser at their tip. Our seed stock was sourced from Sylvia Davatz, a longtime Vermont seed saver.

Limited quantity - only 1 pack per person. I will only ship one pack and will refund the additional packs. Why the limit? To allow as many growers as possible to enjoy this cultivar.
