Beefy Resilient Grex Bean
(Phaseolus vulgaris); an OSSI-pledged variety bred for organic systems; Bush bean with short runners; Dry bean; Minimum 30 seeds
A variety from breeder Carol Deppe bred for organic systems, a grex is a population intentionally left mixed after a genetic cross to enhance its resilience and adaptability to environmental variations and stresses in growing conditions (soil, weather, disease and pest resistance.) These extremely productive bush plants benefit from something for their short runners to twine about. Pods varying in physical traits mature over a multi-week period to yield a harvest of small, meaty, thin-skinned beans in a satisfying array of earthtone shades. Enjoy them as a mix or develop your own line by selecting and replanting your favorite(s.)
