(Triticum vulgare); aka Russian, Early Russian; Heritage - Centennial; Hard Red Spring; Awnless; a cultivar from the Kusa Seed Society Collection; Spring-planted
This line of Ghirka was originally collected from Hrodzienskaja voblasć, Belarus for the 1900 Paris Exposition.
Our original seed stock came from Kusa. An interesting USDA report from 1916 (USDA Bulletin 450--Improvements of Ghirka Spring Wheat in Yield and Quality) detailing their early testing of Ghirka 1517 as they looked for drought resistance.
