Snack on these little packs of summer sunshine and it's easy to understand how they are the pride of Salento's Manduria, a town in Puglia, located in the "heel" of Italy's "boot." Fiaschetto di Manduria features in passata di pomodoro, an Italian family tradition that captures fruits at their ripest, preserving the best of the season's harvest for enjoyment throughout the year.

Set out as transplants mid-May, we had plenty of red ripe tomatoes for saucing early August. Fruits are prone to split if left on the vine too long.
