(Solanum lycopersicum); a Slow Food Ark of Taste variety; Indeterminate; Beefsteak; Red; Regular leaf; Minimum 20 seeds
Belmonte's strong vines yield large pink-red often ribbed fruits that are sweet and well-balanced in flavor. Interestingly, this Italian Ark of Taste variety originated in the US! Early in the 20th century, Guglielmo Mercurio imported and introduced this variety to Belmonte Calabro Muncipality growers of Italy's Cosenza province. Considered a Coure di Bue variety in Italy, fruits as large as 3 pounds are possible.
