A species distinct from common bread wheat, Militinae has chubby compact spikes with long awns that thresh easily of their slim, dark kernels. A result of a rare, spontaneous cross between timopheevi and cartlicum, Militinae belong to the timopheevi botanical group which carries resistance to fungal diseases, rusts, and powdery mildew. Robust plants are winter hardy and productive.
