(Hordeum vulgare); Heritage; 6-rowed; Hulled; Awned; Feed; a New York State Connection variety; Fall-planted
Neal F. Jensen of New York's Agriculture Experiment Station developed this 6-rowed barley in the mid 1960s as a winter hardy feed type. Hefty compact spikes atop short yet strong straw thresh easily by hand to release large, plump kernels that have a 14% protein content and a 4.6% beta glucan content. Impressive plants mature mid-season on our southeast Michigan homestead.
Did very nicely even with heavy weed pressure. Entire crop was ready for cutting at the same time.
