New York Amish Mushroom Popcorn
(Zea mays) 105 days; Heritage; A New York State Connection cultivar
Mushroom popcorn is named for the distinctive wrinkly round shape its kernels take upon popping that conjures an image of a plump mushroom cap. This unique shape makes it a perfect cultivar for homemade classic caramel kettle corn and other flavored kettle corns. New York Amish Mushroom popcorn's yellow kernels, mature on long, slender ears in 100-105 days on our southeast Michigan homestead.
Popcorn is dual use in that you can also grind its hard kernels for cornmeal. When shelling the kernels, we suggest you sort by size - the smallest kernels tend not to pop as well and are best used ground for cornmeal.
