Cute baby butternuts, Honeynut squashes are a northern gardener's dream. Developed by Michael Mazourek of Cornell's Vegetable Breeding Institute, this open-pollinated variety demonstrates strong resistance to powdery mildew; factor in the natural aversion of vine borers to moschatas and you have one hearty variety! Prolific vines trellis well and become laden over the season with 4-5 inch dark green fruits that mature to a buff-orange. Properly cured and stored, the 1 pound squashes provide personal sized servings of healthy, exceptionally sweet nutty goodness throughout the winter. Simply cut in half, bake and enjoy! Similar to "Candystick Delicata" and "Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato Squash", Honeynut is one of our "must-grow" squashes.

Please see this interesting article in the Cornell Chronicle about the Honeynut and High Mowing Seeds' account of Honeynut's journey "From Pollination to Your Plate."
